Bernard de Marigny

Comments

Bernard de Marigny - (1785 - 1868) A wealthy French landowner, served in the U.S. army, participated in framing the 1st and 2nd consitutions of LA and served in LA Territorial legislatures. He was also elected president of LA Senate in 1822. Lost most of his wealth (a gambler) before his death. Mandeville, LA was founded by him in the 1830s. Two streets of New Orleans, Mandeville and Marigny, carry the family name. Restored by Archdiocese in 1983.
