About PhillySiteFinder

PhillySiteFinder is a publicly-accessible, web-based, geographic data application developed by the University of Pennsylvania's Cartographic Modeling Lab (CML) in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Environmental Council (PEC). Other partners include the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission and the City of Philadelphia Commerce Department. The PhillySiteFinder website is an online mapping system with an inventory of vacant and underutilized commercial and industrial sites in Kensington, Richmond, Bridesburg and Fishtown in Philadelphia. The site offers potential investors a place to learn more about parcel conditions, ownership and availability for sale or lease. Used in conjunction with the CML’s neighborhoodBase group of applications, PhillySiteFinder also provides a powerful tool that greatly enhances users’ ability to plan new programs, manage resources and target improvements. If you have a question about a specific site in the database, call the City of Philadelphia Commerce department at (215) 683-2000.

Visitors to PhillySiteFinder can search for parcels in one of two ways:

  • by defining criteria including lot size, sale price, and year of sale, enterprise zone flag and availability. The search can be further narrowed by selecting an area of the City. The application will return a summary list, a map and picture(s) of sites that meet the user-defined criteria.
  • by entering a specific street address, which allows users to locate and explore sites in the vicinity of the entered address.

Once the parcels are found using one of the above methods, users can uncover more details including size, sales and assessment information, EPA data, photographs, and zoning classification. Customized maps can be created and printed. Map layers can be added providing detail on transportation routes in the site vicinities transit access, and public economic development incentive programs such as Keystone Opportunity Zones. PhillySiteFinder's user-friendly format and simple instructions keep training requirements to a minimum. Because it is a web-based application, no special hardware or software is required. (Recommended web-browser: Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher using a Windows platform.)

The site was built using the architecture developed for the NIS system, which was funded primarly by the William Penn Foundation, Pew Charitable Trusts, and University of Pennsylvania. Additional funding for PhillySiteFinder comes from the Pennsylvania Environmental Council and a grant from the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission's Transportation and Community Development Initiative (TCDI).
