Clark Erickson is an archaeologist with over 28 years of fieldwork in Latin America. His research focuses on the pre-Columbian cultural or anthropogenic landscapes of the Americas. Current projects include investigations of farming and settlement systems in the Amazon and Andes. Using landscape features as artifacts, Erickson and colleagues are reconstructing social organization, land tenure, technology, and lifeways of rural farmers in the hope of providing models for contemporary sustainable development. His team is also helping the Bolivian government develop a plan for the conservation, management, and use of this cultural landscape.
